Product Care & Safety Guide
At Janik Atelier, we fuse centuries-old Anatolian craftsmanship with modern luxury. Each pair is handcrafted using premium natural materials. To ensure the longevity of your footwear and your personal safety, please follow this comprehensive guide.
1. Authenticity & Material Character
Our shoes are made from Genuine Leather and artisanally handcrafted.
-
Natural Variations: Since we use organic materials, slight variations in grain, texture, or color are not defects but unique hallmarks of authentic leather.
-
The "Break-in" Period: Authentic leather is a living material. It will stretch and mold to the shape of your feet over time. We recommend wearing them for short periods initially until they reach peak comfort.
2. Safety & Usage Warnings
To prevent accidents and ensure proper use, please adhere to the following:
-
Sole Traction & Slip Resistance: Janik Atelier shoes often feature authentic leather soles. New leather soles can be slippery, especially on smooth, wet, or carpeted surfaces.
-
Precaution: We strongly recommend "scuffing" the soles by walking on a dry, abrasive surface (like concrete) or applying a non-slip adhesive grip before your first outdoor wear.
-
-
Intended Surfaces: These shoes are designed for dry, urban environments. Avoid wearing them on ice, oil-slicked surfaces, or steep inclines where traction may be compromised.
-
Color Transfer (Natural Dyes): We prioritize health-conscious, premium dyes. Consequently, minor color migration may occur when the leather is exposed to moisture or foot perspiration. We recommend wearing dark-colored socks during the first few uses.
3. Proposition 65 Compliance
⚠️ WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals including Chromium (hexavalent compounds), which is known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. For more information, go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.
4. Detailed Care Instructions
To preserve the "Quiet Luxury" quality of your Janik Atelier pieces:
-
Moisture Management: Leather and water do not mix. If your shoes get wet, wipe them with a dry cloth and let them air dry naturally. Never use a hairdryer, radiator, or direct sunlight, as extreme heat will crack the leather.
-
Rotation & Resting: Leather needs to breathe. Avoid wearing the same pair two days in a row. Giving them 24 hours to rest helps maintain their structural integrity and prevents odor.
-
Storage: Always store your shoes in the provided Janik Atelier Dust Bag. For loafers and mules, using a cedar shoe tree will help maintain the original silhouette.
-
Cleaning: Use only specialized leather cleaners. Always test any care product on a small, inconspicuous area (like the inner heel) before applying it to the entire shoe.
5. Limitation of Liability
Janik Atelier shall not be held liable for any injuries, slips, falls, or damages resulting from improper care, unauthorized modifications, or use of the footwear on unsuitable surfaces. By using our products, you acknowledge that you have read and understood these care and safety guidelines.
